Alex Hsu
PLANADVISER: Tell us about your role at your firm and how you contribute to its growth and progress. How did you end up there?
Hsu: My journey with HUB began as an intern on the team led by Alex Assaley, our managing director and lead adviser, after my freshman year of college. I was drawn in by the chance to help people in a meaningful way, and that early experience kept me coming back each summer. In 2020, I joined full-time.
Today, I serve as a client relationship manager, acting as the primary adviser and first point of contact for my clients. I manage relationships, coordinate with fellow advisers and help resolve any challenges that arise. As our team grows, I also support colleagues by providing solutions and ensuring we maintain the highest service standards. Ultimately, my role is about building trust, delivering results and contributing to the overall strength of our team.
PLANADVISER: How do you define success in your role?
Hsu: Success means being the trusted partner clients rely on to address challenges quickly, effectively and with minimal disruption. Our clients are busy leading impactful organizations, and my job is to make managing their retirement plan as seamless as possible.
For me, that includes being a strategic resource. Someone they call first, whether planning ahead, exploring options or seeking clarity. It’s also about anticipating needs before they become problems and delivering solutions that build confidence and long-term relationships.
PLANADVISER: Have you had mentors or role models? Who are they and what lessons have you learned from them?
Hsu: I’ve had the privilege of learning from Alex Assaley since my first internship in 2017. He’s been an incredible mentor, challenging me, encouraging my growth and leading by example. One of the most valuable lessons he’s taught me is not to sell myself short.
While humility matters, Alex has helped me see that our work is complex and highly specialized. Clearly showing clients the impact we make across their organization not only builds trust; it reinforces the unique value we bring.
