Previously an academic affiliate of Symmetry, McDermott now leads the firm’s investment committee, working with the research department and its investment product vendors to identify and design optimal investment solutions.
A professor in Fairfield University’s department of finance, McDermott is known for his work on the role of liquidity in financial markets. His articles have beenpublished in a number of academic journals, and he has won awards from the Financial Management Association International and the American Association of Individual Investors for his 2000 dissertation, which identified liquidity changes as a partial explanation for the S&P 500 Index Effect.
McDermott holds a bachelor’s of science degree from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, a master’s in business administration from Columbia University and a Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut. His affiliation with Symmetry Partners began in 2005.
