PSCA Re-Launches Fiduciary Training Program

The Plan Sponsor Council of America (PSCA) re-launched its online ERISA Fiduciary Training Program.

“The course has been updated to reflect the latest legislative, Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and Department of Labor (DOL) changes since the program was first made available in 2011,” says PSCA Executive Director Robert Benish.

PSCA’s Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) Fiduciary Training Program is a three-module online course, which allows individuals to take the program at work or at home at their convenience. Each module includes a test, and, upon successful completion of the program, the participant earns a certificate.

Successful completion will also provide the DOL, or other regulatory agency, with documentation that responsible individuals serving as fiduciaries have completed ERISA fiduciary training and have demonstrated an understanding of their role. PSCA says one of the first things the DOL asks when auditing a company’s retirement plan is if its fiduciaries have received training.

Three core modules comprise PSCA’s ERISA Fiduciary Training Program:

  • ERISA’s Vision of the Fiduciary Role;
  • Selecting and Monitoring Service Providers; and
  • Fiduciary Communications with Participants.

A fourth optional module—The ERISA Decision-Making Framework—is also provided to offer a perspective about working with investment or administrative committee members. The cost to take the program is $250 for members of PSCA and $750 for non-members.
