Micah Alsobrook
PLANADVISER: Tell us about your role at your firm and how you contribute to its growth and progress.
Alsobrook: I serve as practice leader of our employer-sponsored retirement plans department, where I own both the strategic direction and the day-to-day standards of the practice. That means cultivating strong vendor partnerships, setting and executing growth plans, and holding the line on the high service and fiduciary standards our clients count on. Regulatory and legislative changes reshape the retirement landscape constantly, so I stay ahead of them so our clients don’t have to.
A key part of my role is building capacity across the firm. I educate our team of private and household wealth planners on the nuances of employer-sponsored plans, so retirement expertise is shared, rather than siloed. I also host a podcast, which extends that mission beyond our walls, sharpening our firm’s voice in the market and opening doors to new relationships. I’m involved in sourcing, closing and servicing every new retirement plan we bring on, and I use those relationships as a gateway to the firm’s full range of services, including household financial planning, personal and business tax, accounting and fractional CFO work. I also oversee the service and support staff who keep our plans running smoothly.
PLANADVISER: What motivates you to stay in the retirement/advisory industry?
Alsobrook: What keeps me here is the people on both sides of the table. I love that this work lets me serve everyone from business owners to entry-level employees, meeting each of them wherever they are on their financial journey. There’s real satisfaction in watching someone move from uncertainty to confidence about their future. A solid plan paired with genuine education can be transformative.
I’m also drawn to the people I work alongside. This industry attracts driven, motivated professionals who are united by a shared focus on growth and helping others, and that camaraderie makes the work energizing. On top of that, the problems we solve are genuinely interesting. They’re complex, nuanced and always evolving as regulations and client needs shift. The challenge never gets stale, and neither does the mission.
PLANADVISER: What outside interests or experiences have influenced how you approach your career?
Alsobrook: As a former athlete, I learned early that there are no shortcuts to success. Discipline, grit, leadership and strong teammates are the difference-makers on any path worth taking, and those lessons translate directly to how I build a practice and serve clients.
Being a dad to a 6-year-old and a 3-year-old has reinforced the same truth from a different angle. Watching them grow through structure, routine and small wins compounded over time mirrors exactly what we do for clients. A little discipline applied consistently goes a remarkably long way, and the people who plan and start early almost always end up with the best outcomes.
Finally, my faith shapes how I understand the purpose of my work. I see it as a way to contribute to human flourishing and to be a blessing to the clients and communities we touch. When we help businesses, families and individuals build security, we’re doing more than managing money. We’re strengthening the fabric of society.
