2025 Excellence In Operations

Kimberly Wakeman

Relationship Manager,
CSi Advisory Services, a division of HUB International

PLANADVISER: Tell us about your role at your firm and your current responsibilities? How do you contribute to your firm/team’s growth and progress?

Wakeman: I’m an operations and relationship manager at Hub International – CSi Advisory Services. I coordinate onboarding for new retirement plan clients, working with recordkeepers, TPAs and advisers to ensure a smooth transition. I also onboard new team members—handling everything from paperwork to systems access (which can be a puzzle at times!). I oversee billing for our TPA and advisory practice, monitor payments from recordkeepers and follow up on any outstanding invoices.

Beyond my core responsibilities, I wear many hats. I’m someone my team can rely on to step in wherever needed—whether that’s creating a review deck, assisting with investment changes, covering emails during vacations or simply being a sounding board for ideas. Over the years, I’ve learned how to support the team so they can focus on what matters most: serving our clients and growing our impact.

PLANADVISER: How did you end up in the retirement advisory industry?

Wakeman: I ended up in the retirement industry somewhat by chance. While finishing school and working at a local restaurant, I started looking for a new direction. My mom mentioned an open position at her company, and although I knew nothing about retirement plans (I didn’t even realize I should be participating in one!), it sounded interesting—so I applied.

That opportunity opened the door to a career I’ve grown to love. I started as an assistant with no industry knowledge and, over time, became a key voice in developing our office procedures and operations. I’ve learned so much and found purpose in supporting our clients and helping our team thrive.

PLANADVISER: For people who don’t understand this space; how would you describe your job to get someone excited about pursuing something similar?

Wakeman: What I love most about this role is that no two days are the same. The retirement industry is always evolving—whether it’s changing regulations, investment trends or technology. It keeps you learning and growing. Our team has more than doubled since I started, and we’ve created new roles to meet both client and internal needs. It’s a space where you can build strong relationships, solve real challenges and make a meaningful impact—while being part of a team that’s always moving forward. While this industry can be overwhelming and demanding, knowing that we are helping people achieve their financial and retirement goals is special.
