A news release said the new venture will be run by managing partner Jim Sampson, who has more than 13 years of experience in the retirement plan industry. Sampson most recently served as director of Retirement Services at Telamon Insurance & Financial Network, where he advised more than 90 corporate retirement plans. He was named one of five finalists for the 2008 PLANSPONSOR Retirement Plan Adviser of the Year award (see “James F. Sampson “).

“With the financial markets in turmoil and worried investors concerned about their financial futures, now more than ever it’s critical for companies and their employees to have an advocate on their side,” said Sampson, in the announcement. “It’s time for today’s working Americans to take back control over their retirements and Cornerstone can help them do that.”

Cornerstone Retirement Advisors, a member firm of National Retirement Partners, will advise clients about retirement plans. The firm’s professionals will evaluate a company’s current plan, identify opportunities to maximize plan efficiency, monitor it over the long term and assist employees to take maximum advantage of their plan, the news release said.

Cox Named Head of Barclays Wealth Global Investment and Product Office

Mitch Cox has been named Managing Director and Head of the Global Investment & Product Office (I&PO) at Barclays Wealth, a global wealth manager and adviser.

Mitch Cox has been named Managing Director and Head of the Global Investment & Product Office (I&PO) at Barclays Wealth, a global wealth manager and adviser.

Cox joins Barclays from Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management, where he most recently lead the Global Investment Solutions Group, having previously run its Global Private Client Market Investment & Origination and Structured Products Origination and Sales divisions.

Reporting to Thomas L. Kalaris, Chief Executive, Barclays Wealth, Cox will be based in New York and will also assume responsibility for leading all of Barclays Wealth’s business activities in the Americas.

Kevin Lecocq, Global Chief Investment Officer (CIO), Jack Petersen, Head of Barclays Wealth, Americas, and Ian Lowitt, Chief Operating Officer, Barclays Wealth, Americas, will now report to Cox.

“We have also been very clear about our commitment to building a leading wealth management business in the Americas, and Mitch will be responsible for developing a best-in-class infrastructure and investment platform to power it, to attract the best financial advisers and to further our franchise in serving high net worth clients,” Kalaris said.
