Charles Schwab Expands OneSource ETF Platform

Charles Schwab added 16 exchange-traded funds (ETFs) to the Schwab ETF OneSource platform, bringing the total number of ETFs available through the platform to 121.

The new ETFs include five from Guggenheim Investments, five from State Street SPDR ETFs and six from Charles Schwab Investment Management. Fund designers intended the additions to expand the range of asset categories available through the OneSource platform. New categories include asset allocation, long-term corporate bond and international asset-income ETFs.

Other fund providers participating in Schwab ETF OneSource include PowerShares, ETF Securities and United States Commodity Funds.

According to Beth Flynn, vice president of ETF platform management at Charles Schwab, the new ETFs will be a good option for investors and advisers looking to build diversified ETF portfolios without paying substantial commission fees. According to Flynn, all of the ETFs on the OneSource platform can be bought and sold without an online trade commission charge.

Transamerica Expands Pension Sales, Distribution Team

Transamerica Retirement Solutions announced the expansion of its pension sales and distribution team with the hiring of Ty Minnich and Cathy Berg.

Minnich joins Transamerica as vice president of not-for-profit institutional markets. Minnich will focus on growing Transamerica’s relationships with consultants and financial advisers, including developing and nurturing new not-for-profit and higher education business opportunities. He will report to Brodie Wood, vice president and national practice leader, not-for-profit markets for Transamerica Retirement Solutions.

Minnich joins Transamerica after serving as a national executive director for MetLife’s defined contribution retirement business. He brings more than 20 years of experience in retirement plans. Minnich received his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Miami, Florida.

Cathy Berg joins Transamerica as vice president of defined benefit plan business development. Berg will continue to expand Transamerica’s defined benefit offerings, and will work with plan sponsors and advisers seeking to improve and streamline their defined benefit retirement plans. She will report to Patrick Kendall, vice president and defined benefit practice leader for Transamerica Retirement Solutions.

Prior to Transamerica, Berg served as director of consultant relations for New York Life Retirement Plan Services. She has specialized in corporate retirement plans for more than 17 years. Berg earned a Master of Science degree in marketing communications and graduated summa cum laude from Roosevelt University.
