PLANADVISER: How did you end up in the retirement advisory industry?
Huff: My journey into the retirement industry was heavily influenced by my dad, who has always been one of my biggest mentors. Growing up, he taught me the value of money and hard work, and how important it is to earn, save and plan for the future. Math was my favorite subject, and I initially thought accounting would be the right path for me. However, after taking accounting courses in college, I quickly realized it wasn’t the career I wanted to pursue. As I explored other areas of finance, I discovered personal finance and retirement planning, which immediately caught my interest. I was fascinated by the many ways people can invest, build wealth and prepare for retirement. Seeing both of my parents successfully navigate retirement has reinforced just how important it is to save and plan early. Today, I feel fortunate to be in a role where I can help educate individuals about retirement planning, making complex topics easier to understand while keeping the experience engaging and meaningful.
PLANADVISER: What motivates you and keeps you engaged in the retirement plan advisory industry?
Huff: I love that this industry is constantly evolving. While the foundational concepts remain the same, rules, regulations, market trends and technology are always changing, and there is always something new to learn. What motivates me the most is taking complex industry information and turning it into something meaningful and easy to understand. Whether that’s a one-page flyer, educational presentation or short video for plan sponsors and participants, I enjoy helping people feel more confident about their financial future. I’m also fascinated by the role of AI. Rather than viewing it as something to fear, I see it as a valuable tool that can help us work smarter and better serve our clients. Finally, I’m extremely fortunate to work alongside an incredibly knowledgeable and supportive team at Oswald Financial, whose dedication to helping others inspires me every day. I truly couldn’t do what I do or be the person I am without the colleagues who have supported, challenged and encouraged me throughout my nine years in this industry. They are a huge part of what keeps me motivated, engaged and excited about the work we do each day.
PLANADVISER: What is the most complex operational challenge you’ve solved, and how did you approach it?
Huff: One of the most complex operational challenges I’ve helped solve was leading the integration between ClientWorks and Salesforce for our wealth management division. My colleague and I worked closely with a third-party consultant to bridge the gap between the two platforms, creating a solution that allowed our financial advisers to continue working within ClientWorks, while leveraging Salesforce as a powerful prospecting, relationship management and documentation tool. This project took nearly a year to successfully implement and required a great deal of patience, adaptability and communication. Once the integration was complete, we developed training and resources to help the team effectively utilize Salesforce for calls, annual reviews, notes and client interactions. Over time, through consistent communication, training and support, the team became comfortable with the new processes, resulting in greater operational efficiency and significantly improving the growth across our business.
