Slocum Names Research, CIO Promotions

James Treanor was promoted to principal and head of research, and Jonathan Havice to chief investment officer at Jeffrey Slocum and Associates Inc.

Treanor joined Slocum 2011 after 11 years with the Florida State Board of Administration (FSBA), where he was responsible for the creation and management of a $5 billion opportunistic strategic portfolio invested in hedge funds and other alternative assets. He also built the FSBA’s $10 billion private equity portfolio.

Over the last year and a half, Treanor led the hedge fund research team at Slocum, vetting, designing and monitoring clients’ direct hedge fund allocations. He works closely with some of the firm’s largest health care, pension, foundation and endowment clients to implement and monitor portfolios of direct investments in hedge funds.

In his new role, Treanor will develop and lead Slocum’s research team of 26 investment and compliance professionals to find the best, most efficient investment managers for each client’s investment structure.

Treanor was selected as a “2010 Rising Star of Hedge Funds” by Institutional Investor magazine. Prior to the FSBA, Treanor spent a decade in financial and operations positions with Northwest Airlines. He holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Boston College and a master’s degree in business administration from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.

Havice came to Slocum in 2012. He was a co-founder and managing partner at Interlachen Capital Group, a multi-strategy investment adviser. Since joining Slocum, Havice has focused on developing the firm’s discretionary investment management services, and providing investment advice to Slocum’s largest clients.  

In his new role, Havice will direct Slocum’s firm-wide collaborative process of developing portfolios, incorporating strategic themes and tactical tilts, tailored to each client’s unique investment goals and risk parameters.

Havice is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s degree in materials science and engineering. Before co-founding Interlachen, Havice managed a variety of portfolio strategies in the U.S. and Europe with EBF Associates, Deephaven Capital Management, Broad Reach Capital, O’Connor and Associates/Swiss Bank Corp. and UBS.

Together, Havice and Treanor will work with their teams of investment consultants and risk specialists to deliver their ideas to Slocum clients.

Pentegra Names Consulting Services VP

Charles W. Coldwell Jr. was promoted to vice president of consulting services at Pentegra Retirement Services.   

Coldwell will oversee Pentegra’s retirement plan consulting group and develop initiatives to improve client experience. He will report to Richard Rausser, senior vice president of client services.

Coldwell began his career with Pentegra in 1978, but left in 2002 to join Glenn G. Geiger Company, where he focused on executive and director benefit programs. He rejoined Pentegra in 2011 as a senior member of consulting services.

Coldwell holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and psychology from St. Lawrence University. He maintains FINRA Series 6 and 63 registrations, as well as life, health and disability insurance licenses in eight states.
