PLANADVISER: How do you maintain a consistent client experience while managing firm growth or team expansion?
Sylvester: We maintain a consistent client experience by relying on our strong team members, supported by repeatable workflows and processes. This ensures every client receives the same high level of service.
We’re very focused on growth, but with scalability in mind. We are continuously refining our systems and service model so we can expand without compromising quality.
PLANADVISER: What aspects of retirement plan advising present the greatest challenges, and which aspects do you find most professionally rewarding?
Sylvester: The biggest challenge in retirement plan advising is breaking through the constant noise competing for participants’ attention—emails, phone calls and everyday distractions. Even when valuable resources and guidance are available, getting individuals to engage meaningfully can be difficult.
What I find most rewarding is the opportunity to make a real impact on people who might not otherwise have access to a financial adviser. Serving as a resource through their employer’s retirement plan allows me to help individuals make informed decisions and work toward a successful financial future.
PLANADVISER: For plan sponsors evaluating advisers, what characteristics or capabilities distinguish you from your peers?
Sylvester: What distinguishes me from many of my peers is my singular focus and depth of expertise in employer-sponsored retirement plans. I work exclusively with plan sponsors. Just as you wouldn’t hire a dentist to perform open-heart surgery, I believe specialization matters.
A main part of my role is helping plan sponsors confidently meet their fiduciary responsibilities while maintaining an efficient, well-run plan. I prioritize strong oversight of plan operations and administration so that sponsors can focus on their business and know that the plan is being run correctly.
Equally important, I focus on making the plan meaningful for employees. It’s not enough to simply offer a benefit—participants need to understand and value it. My responsibility is to ensure employees are educated, engaged and equipped to make the most of the plan, ultimately driving better outcomes for both the workforce and the organization.
