CAPTRUST Acquires 2 New York-Based Advisory Firms

CAPTRUST Financial Advisors LLC announced Wednesday the acquisition of two Long Island-based financial advisory firms.

Compass Advisors and Long Island Wealth Management Inc., both located in Melville, New York, will adopt the CAPTRUST brand. Combined, they have seven professionals and $1.2 billion in assets.

Compass Advisory Group LLC was founded in 2013 by Partners Michael Cuneo, a 2026 PLANADVISER Top Retirement Plan Adviser, and Lauren King. It has more than $300 million in retirement assets.

In a joint statement, Cuneo said CAPTRUST offers “expansive tools and resources” and shares a “commitment to fiduciary advice,” and King added that CAPTRUST will help their firm maintain clients’ “boutique white glove experience.”

Jeff Myers, who founded Long Island Wealth Management in 2006, said in a statement that CAPTRUST will allow him to maintain client relationships through “more quality time.”

Between January 31 and May 14, CAPTRUST made four acquisitions worth approximately $8.28 billion in assets under management, according to John Orsini, director of wealth advisory services at MarshBerry. Recent acquisitions included Suncoast Prosperity Advisors, a Florida-based wealth management practice, and Alpha Cubed Investments LLC, a California-based registered investment adviser, in February; and Meritage Portfolio Management Inc., a Kansas-based investment management firm, in December 2025.

The company named Mike Wunderli its head of mergers and acquisitions in June 2025.

Based in Raleigh, North Carolina, CAPTRUST already has a Long Island office in Lake Success, New York, with 25 employees, including 14 financial advisers. It provides financial advice and investment management services to individuals, endowments, foundations, nonprofit organizations and retirement plan sponsors and participants.
