Law Firms McDermott Will & Emery and Schulte Roth & Zabel Merge

The newly formed firm will have more than 1,750 attorneys in more than 20 offices.

International law firms McDermott Will & Emery LLP, headquartered in Chicago, and Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP, founded in New York, have merged, bringing together the former’s “industry-leading momentum” with the latter’s “renowned leadership in private capital,” according to the announcement.

The new firm, McDermott Will & Schulte, will have more than 1,750 attorneys across more than 20 offices worldwide.

Ira Coleman, chairman of the merged firm after serving as McDermott Will & Emery’s managing partner, said in a statement that the merger is more than just collaboration.

“From serving as indispensable partners to our clients to fostering a people-first culture and driving innovation, we’re challenging conventional models and building a firm for the future,” Coleman said in the statement.

According to the announcement, Schulte partners will take key positions across the management, executive and compensation committees and will serve as co-leads for the firm’s New York and London offices.
