Advisers Unfamiliar With Smart Beta
Embracing factor-based funds could help advisers fine-tune portfolios
Strategic beta products offer advisers the opportunity to fine-tune investment exposures, but the strategies demand “increasing intellectual capital to select amid an abundance of options.”
According to Boston Consulting Group, among asset management products, passives were far and away the fastest growing category in 2017, with a record 25% increase in AUM over an already very sizable base.
Data shared by FTSE Russell, taken from the firm’s annual smart beta survey, suggests the use of “multi-factor combination smart beta index-based investment strategies” by institutional investors has more than doubled since first measured in 2015.
However, while 79% of U.S. advisers are aware of smart beta, only 36% are very familiar.
