State Street Global CIO to Step Down
Lori Heinel will continue in her role until her retirement in March 2027.

Lori Heinel, global CIO of State Street Investment Management, will retire in March 2027 after 12 years at the firm, a spokesperson for the firm told CIO.
“Lori has made significant contributions to our investment platform, our clients and our culture, including leading more than 600 investment professionals globally and helping advance important innovation initiatives across the business,” the spokesperson said. “She will continue in her role as global CIO until her retirement, and we are committed to ensuring a seamless transition for our clients, employees and partners. We are grateful for Lori’s leadership and look forward to celebrating her many accomplishments in the months ahead.”
State Street Investment Management had $6.28 trillion in assets under management as of June 30, including $2.2 trillion invested through exchange-traded funds.
Based in Boston, Heinel was named deputy global CIO in 2016 and became global CIO in 2021. State Street Investment Management has not yet named a successor.
Prior to her career at State Street, Heinel was the head of product management and chief investment strategist for Oppenheimer Funds, and previously was head of investment solutions at Citi Private Bank and head of global products at SEI.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in religion from Princeton University and an MBA in finance from the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University.
