  • Lack of Foresight: Although 32% of independent advisers claim to have a succession plan, only 17% actually do, SEI discovered through a survey of 771 advisers. In fact, 99% of independent financial services and advisory practices go out of business when their founder retires.
  • A Kick in the Pants: Two in five retirement plan participants (40%) want their employer to give them a “slight nudge” to encourage them to save for retirement, and another 40% think that should be a “strong nudge” or a “kick in the pants,” American Century Investments found through a national survey.
  • “The secret of success in life is for a man to be ready for his opportunity when it comes.” —Benjamin Disraeli
  • Just over two-thirds (68%) of working Americans are worried they will run out of money in retirement, and nearly as many (63%) are afraid their health care costs will be too much for them to handle, according to a Harris poll.
  •  A majority of Americans lack confidence in their ability to manage personal financial issues, with more than a quarter (26%) wishing they could avoid dealing with finance entirely. Only 8% think they have a good grip on personal finance. This is according to a survey by the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC).
