Two conferences to help broaden your business
Reported by PLANADVISER Staff

You may well be reading this at our second annual PLANADVISER National Conference (in any event, we hope you are making plans for 2009). Although that remains the premier adviser event for advisers committed to working with retirement plans, our conference season doesn’t end there.

This fall, we are offering advisers two additional conferences that can help you deepen and broaden two specific areas of your practices.

Defined Benefit

In October, our sister publication PLANSPONSOR is hosting its third annual DB Investment Summit. Mark Twain once famously remarked that the reports of his death were premature. Similarly, while many have predicted the death of defined benefit plans, many programs are still in place—an opportunity for financial advisers. Although regulatory changes clearly have presented challenges, many employers remain committed to the programs, and even those that have frozen benefits require oversight and maintenance. PLANSPONSOR’s conference offers sessions that will provide an unprecedented level of interaction with your peers, plan sponsors, and the best minds in the industry.

This event, to be held at the Doral Arrowwood in Rye Brook, New York, from October 27 through 29, has been exclusively designed for those responsible for managing defined benefit plans as well as the consultants and advisers that help defined benefit plan sponsors with their plans. The conference will cover all aspects of defined benefit plan investment management, from the impact of new regulations from FASB/GASB to frozen plan management and liability-driven investing. Rollover Opportunity

A 2007 report from Cerulli Associates predicted that outflows from 401(k) plans would be nearly $300 billion by year-end and accelerate thereafter by 15% each year—or more. As most advisers now know, this presents a significant opportunity to gather assets. In order to help you capitalize on this opportunity, PLANADVISER and PLANSPONSOR have created an intensive one-day conference that focuses on the opportunities and challenges of this rollover market and the best solutions for advisers.

Our first Rollover Solutions conference, to be held in New York City on November 6, will provide the information you need to take advantage of the opportunity. The conference will cover all aspects of the rollover business, from determining whether you want to make wealth management part of your practice, to making your case to the plan sponsor and participants, the rollover platforms and retirement income solutions available today, and the current regulatory environment under the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Department of Labor. For more information, or to register, visit ww2.plansponsor.com/RSC08/index.html.

Whether you have defined benefit plan clients or a rollover capture program in place, or are looking to broaden your practice by introducing either of these options, we welcome you to join us for both conferences and look forward to seeing you there.
