Ameriprise Data Breach Impacts More Than 47,000 People

Ameriprise Financial Inc. experienced a data breach on March 2 that impacted 47,876 customers, according to a filing with the Maine attorney general’s office.
The data breach was discovered on March 18, according to the filing. The incident “involved unauthorized access to certain stored data and files,” but there was “no disruption to business operations,” according to a statement from Ameriprise. No further details were given as to what data were accessed.
The statement added, “We are taking appropriate actions, including notifying the limited number of individuals with personally identifiable information impacts and offering them credit and identity monitoring.”
Impacted clients included 335 Maine residents, according to the Maine filing, and 256 Rhode Island residents, according to a separate filing with the Rhode Island attorney general’s office.
Individuals affected by the data breach received a letter from Ameriprise offering free credit and identity monitoring through Equifax Complete Premier for 12 months.
A ransomware group reportedly made a breach of Ameriprise’s data on March 22, resulting in lawsuits filed on March 27 and April 2 in the U.S. District Court for the U.S. District of Minnesota, alleging the company failed to protect clients’ personally identifiable information.
Earlier this month, OneDigital Investment Advisors LLC filed a data breach notification that personal data belonging to up to 28,414 people, including names and Social Security numbers, were compromised in August 2025. The information compromised varied by customer.
