Alight, MetLife Team Up on Retirement Income Offerings
MetLife’s annuities will be available on Alight’s benefits platform, which serves nearly 12 million defined contribution plan participants.
MetLife Inc. and Alight Inc. announced on Wednesday a strategic collaboration to bring MetLife’s institutional income annuities to the Alight Worklife benefits management platform, which serves nearly 12 million defined contribution plan participants. Goldman Sachs Asset Management L.P. will serve as sub-adviser to Alight.
Plan sponsors will have access to MetLife’s Guaranteed Income fixed-immediate annuity and Retirement Income Insurance QLIA, a fixed-deferred-income annuity, within their DC plans. The integration enables participants to purchase these solutions and convert a portion of their savings into monthly income.
According to MetLife’s “2025 Enduring Retirement Model Study,” 93% of plan sponsors said they recognize the need for guaranteed income that participants can rely on throughout retirement. In addition, more than one-third (35%) of companies reported that their DC plan currently has a guaranteed income solution, and more than half of those who do not (51%) said they plan to add one within the next five years.
The study also found that only 42% of employees said they felt confident about their financial situation, and 56% said they wanted help from their employer on financial health topics. MetLife and Alight’s collaboration is intended to provide guidance about retirement income for both plan sponsors and participants.
Plan sponsors will have administrative tools to reintroduce annuities and educational resources to help participants understand retirement income options, according to the announcement.
Participants will be given digital tools, educational content and “easy-to-use” options to convert savings into lifelong income.
“This collaboration with MetLife brings the power of retirement simplicity, education and security together for today’s workforce,” said Rob Sturrus, Alight’s chief client officer, in a statement. “By providing MetLife’s innovative retirement income solutions directly from Alight Worklife, we’re helping employers offer their people a clearer, more informed path to retirement—one that makes their savings last a lifetime.”
