New Actuarial Firm Serves Small and Mid-Size Plan Sponsors

Clarity In Numbers, LLC, a new actuarial firm, is now in operation to service small and mid-size private sector and public sector plan sponsors.

The Chicago-based firm was founded by a group of credentialed actuarial professionals who have spent much of their careers at large consulting and accounting firms, according to a press release. The firm began operations in February 2008.

“Clarity guides small to mid-size entities through the complexities of managing their benefit plans while adhering to changing rules and regulations,” said John S. Ritchie, partner at the firm.

ASPPA and COPA to Form ASPPA College of Pension Actuaries

The American Society of Pension Professionals&Actuaries (ASPPA) and the College of Pension Actuaries (COPA) have agreed to join forces with the objective of integrating COPA as a semi-autonomous body within ASPPA.

The body will be known as the ASPPA College of Pension Actuaries (ACOPA), according to a press release from the groups. The boards of directors of both organizations will develop a formal agreement to implement the plan, which will be offered for a vote by the COPA membership later this year.

With membership approval, ACOPA would function as an operating unit within ASPPA to represent the needs of the combined group of pension actuaries, the release said.

Rick Block, COPA President, said in the release that many of the members of the organization he heads also are members of ASPPA and share mutual beliefs and goals. “The collaboration of ASPPA and COPA efforts is a natural progression in the best interests of both organizations,” he said.

Sal Tripodi, President of ASPPA, said in the release that the move could be completed as early as September.
