A Russell news release said Gunning, previously CIO for the Asia-Pacific region, will succeed Tom Hanly, who will become chief operating officer. Both positions report to Russell’s president and chief executive officer, Craig Ueland.
In his new role, based in Russell’s headquarters in Tacoma, Gunning will assume responsibility for directing Russell’s investment management and research activities. He also will join Russell’s Executive Committee and will remain a member of the firm’s Investment Committee.
Along with his responsibilities for the Asia-Pacific region, Gunning was most recently responsible for the management of the Australian, New Zealand, Japanese, and Australasian equity and fixed income portfolios.
