Grail Advisors Adds to Sales Team

Grail Advisors, which distributes actively managed exchange-traded funds (ETFs), announced a number of appointments to lead and manage the company’s sales and distribution efforts.

The San Francisco-based Grail Advisors recently registered an actively managed ETF in the equity space, to be distributed through registered investment advisers (RIAs), bank trusts, independent broker/dealers, and other financial firms, the company said (see “Grail Advisors To Launch Two Actively Managed ETFs).

The new distribution appointments include Chet Chappell, who will lead the firm’s overall sales efforts as head of Distribution. Chappell, who came to Grail Advisors from Charles Schwab Investment Management, will oversee the intermediary sales and distribution efforts. He will also be responsible for developing the product and marketing plan for Grail Advisor’s entire lineup of offerings, according to a news release.

Richard Hendl accepted the position of vice president of Distribution in the Eastern region. Hendl comes to Grail Advisors from Putnam Investments, where he was senior vice president, account manager. Previously, he worked at Scudder Kemper Investments.

Brian McGinty will oversee the firm’s efforts in the other half of the country as vice president of Distribution in the Western region. Before joining Grail Advisors, McGinty was Midwest regional director of Intermediary and Institutional Sales for Charles Schwab Investment Management. He previously held senior positions with AXA Rosenberg and Safeco Asset Management.

Mitch Zielezinski will serve as vice president, Institutional Distribution for Grail Advisors. In that role, he will be responsible for distribution of the firm’s actively managed ETFs to institutional investors, including market makers, proprietary trading firms, and other large platforms, the company said. Zielezinski came to Grail Advisors from Charles Schwab & Co., where he was a director of Institutional Sales. Previously, he served as managing director of Trinity Distributors.


401kDIRECT Teams Up to Offer ETFs

401kDIRECT launched a new program that gives advisers, third-party administrators (TPAs), and plan sponsors access to exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

The ETFs will be available for 401(k), 457, and 403(b) plans on the 401kDIRECT platform through the Mid Atlantic Trust Company’s ETFxChange Program, according to a news release.

Key features of the offering, which is offered in bundled and un-bundled 401KDIRECT programs, include the ability to trade like mutual funds and the availability of “virtually unlimited trading,” according to the company. It can also be offered alongside traditional mutual funds.
