ETF Assets Increase Almost 50% in Past 12 Months

Assets of all exchange-traded funds (ETFs) rose in October by $37.08 billion, or 6.7%, to $588.18 billion, according to the latest monthly statistics from the Investment Company Institute (ICI).

Over the past 12 months, ETF assets increased $192.88 billion, or 48.8%. Assets in domestic equity ETFs increased $93.70 billion since October 2006, and global equity ETF assets increased by $87.97 billion during this period, ICI data showed.

In October 2007, assets in domestic equity ETFs reached $373.39 billion, while assets in global ETFs reached $183.67 billion.

Assets of hybrid index funds, a new product with the first funds launched in October, were $93 million.

During October, the value of all ETF shares issued exceeded that of shares redeemed by $17.54 billion. So far in 2007, ETFs experienced a net issuance of $97.40 billion.
