In addition, the firm appointed Gamba, Head of Public Markets Investments Terrence Murphy and Chief Financial and Chief Operating Officer Matthew Nicholis as co-presidents of Franklin Templeton.

“I’m excited Daniel has joined our firm in this pivotal role at a time when we are seeing growth across our business,” said Jenny Johnson, Franklin Templeton’s CEO, in a statement. “Daniel is a widely respected industry leader and brings extensive experience, which includes work across various geographies and asset classes, including public and private markets. Throughout his more than 25 years in the asset management business, he has become a trusted partner to clients in all segments across our industry.

Franklin Templeton has significantly expanded its investment offerings across strategies and asset classes over the past several years. The firm has acquired several asset managers, including private credit firm Apera, Putnam investments and Lexington Partners. Franklin Templeton also hired long-time Mercer executive Rich Nuzum to build out the firm’s outsourced CIO business.

“This is the right time for me to join Franklin Templeton and support its journey in becoming the world’s leading asset manager to help clients navigate current and future investment needs,” Gamba said in a statement. “The firm has built one of the most diverse and innovative offerings in the industry and is making very exciting progress around the world.”

Gamba joined Northern Trust in 2023, where he oversaw the asset management arm’s $1.3 trillion in assets under management. He previously spent 20 years at BlackRock, most recently as co-head of fundamental equities.

Michael Hunstad, co-CIO of Northern Trust Asset Management, was named as NTAM president last week, succeeding Gamba.

Gamba earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from the Catholic University in Peru and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
