According to a report from higher education resource The Best Degrees, a Master in Business Administration degree with a concentration in Technology Management offers the best overall job potential in the current economic environment.
The report, which determined the top 51 degrees based on job potential in the current U.S. economy, finds the top 10 are:
- M.B.A. in Technology Management
- Ph.D. in Computer Science
- B.S. in Software Engineering
- M.A. in Education Administration
- M.S. in Geoscience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science
- Bachelor’s Degree in Databases
- Master’s Degree in Operations Research
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Networks
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
According to the report, while most studies have concentrated solely on wage potential, this research also evaluated the volume of job seeker competition within each field along with a candidate’s probability of securing a job offer following graduation. The published report effectively matches college degrees to the current needs of the U.S. economy. Data was compiled from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) of the U.S. Department of Labor.
Primary criteria for report was the level of job opportunities per The Occupational Outlook Handbook published by BLS. Next, jobs were ranked by annual salary expectations as published by BLS wage data. Finally, jobs were associated with the degree required, with a separate section for degrees with competitive admissions.
